Hey, I’m Doug, the founder of Cash House Closers.

Let’s be real.

These “About” pages are usually pretty dry.

So, let me tell you a quick story instead.

In 2016, I did something unthinkable:

I bought my first investment property, sight unseen.

It was a 200-year old rowhome in Philadelphia.

Boy, was that the biggest risk I ever took.

Fast-forward 2 years later and I sold that flip for a $400K profit.

I’M JOKING!

Flipping a house is an absolute struggle.

In fact, if you think I’m going to make money like that by purchasing your home, then you’re in the wrong place.

I can assure you, I won’t.

And it’s not just me. Flipping in general is not as lucrative as most think:

Man, I’d even take 10-20%. All day long.

The reality is, though, that most of the projects and renovations my team and I work on only result in a few percentage points of profit.

Well, I ended up making every mistake in the book:

1. I moved into it to cut down on costs.
2. I did all the work myself to eek out every inch of profit (or so I thought).
3. After 3.5 years, I finished the renovation. Right in the middle of COVID.

I made $0 on that first “flip” of mine.

How?

Well, I never sold it.

I turned it into a passion project. Even the NY Times caught interest in the craftsmanship and work that I was putting out month after month:

You see, I love real estate.

I love the physical part, the helping people part and the financial part.

It’s in my blood.

I discovered that I can “be in real estate” without churning through properties.

There are countless ways to be part of transactions and help sellers along the way.

I started financing deals, keeping rentals, helping first-time homebuyers and even joint-venturing with other local investors.

But before I get too far ahead of myself, you might be wondering:

How does a guy from Philadelphia make his way down to North Carolina?

It’s not like those two places are right next to each other:

Well, let’s just say life works in mysterious ways.

After getting laid off from my corporate job in Philadelphia, I took this real estate thing serious.

Although I was building a brand and name for myself in the City of Brotherly Love, I knew that Carolina Was On My Mind.

Sorry, I had to make that pun. Could not resist!

I opened up my real estate business in North Carolina in 2022 and have not looked back!
